One Idea I have is, since it would be hard to match ingredients to plate, is to have the character have a cooking option, when they cook they use random ingredients until a dish is made, if they run out of ingredients give them a failed dish. if they are cooking and between 7 and 50 ingredients are used they suddenly have come up with a new dish. this new dish instead of making it from the same ingredients, you get a piece of paper with the recipe (just a name of the dish, or recipe number which can then be sold to a vendor to be able to buy that dish again. this avoids matching and crafting system while being able to use all the images. Create a function to randomize how it effects stats depending on the dish and vola, 205 dishes that a vender can sell that give differnt stat boosts, also, you could include a Popularity option among venders to make it so in different locations recipes sell for more and are more expensive so that there is a trading system where you might want to stock up on a dish thats popular in your next location.
